Our Story

Higher Vibes began with Xanya Davis, a fourth-generation Austinite, lifelong artist, and creative with an affinity for radical authenticity- keeping Austin weird since 1995. Living at the margins and intersections of society as a Black, neurodivergent, queer, woman, Xanya has often faced adversity and challenges in her life. So, it was almost expected when, after a year of running her successful loc business, Loc Goddess X, as a tenant in the building, she was given a 30-day notice to vacate, after the property management company that leased the building, decided to relocate. Faced with a pivotal decision, Xanya had to choose between packing up, starting over somewhere new or betting everything she had on herself and beginning one of the biggest journeys of her life.

Despite being completely inexperienced, self-funded, and initially operating solo, she embraced the challenge of taking over the building. Soon after she was connected with Kendra, a visionary artist behind the "Bring Back The Weird" initiative, through Chelsea, a phenomenal local event curator and childhood friend. Chelsea also introduced her to Raye'vn of Enygma Studios , a talented artist and event curator. Over the first year, they collaborated with other creatives, experimented with hosting different types of events, building a network of amazing artists and artisans. Through these collaborations, the Higher Vibes team fell into place, a process that felt like divine timing.

Higher Vibes has since transformed a fixer-upper building into a vibrant, artistic hub. Now, the team seeks more funding and collaborators to fully realize their vision, which you can read about below.

Higher Vibes exists to reignite Austin’s distinctive art culture, celebrating and uplifting local, marginalized, and minority communities, businesses, art and voices. The mission is to create a dynamic, inclusive space where creativity flourishes, and everyone feels empowered to express themselves authentically.

Our Vision

Higher Vibes saw potential in an old building and transformed it into something extraordinary. Every wall and blank space is treated as a canvas, infusing art into every corner. Through extensive repairs, renovations, and DIY projects, the space has been revitalized.

The vision includes:

• A Community Hub: Providing long-term workspaces for small businesses, fostering creativity and productivity.

• Flexible Rentals: Catering to short-term needs for events, classes, and gatherings, with hourly rental options.

• Versatile Event Spaces: From concerts to corporate events, the premises, including a 16ft x 16ft stage, provide the perfect setting. Event curators and hosts ensure every detail is meticulously planned.

• Supporting Professionals: Offering a platform for hair stylists, beauty professionals, tattoo artists, visual artists, and wellness practitioners, creating a diverse and vibrant community.
